We were in the area and decided to stop by Japantown in San Jose. After walking around for a bit, we wanted some coffee before heading home and came across Roy’s Station Coffee & Tea. It's a small shop but very cozy. It was pretty busy around lunch, but the staff handled it well and were super friendly. Seating inside is limited, but there’s plenty of outdoor seating, which was perfect. The coffee was fresh and tasty, and the pastries looked great... they even have some vegan and gluten-friendly options. The café pet-friendly too which is nice. We really enjoyed it and would definitely stop by again. Great spot if you’re in Japantown and need a coffee break!

I found this coffee shop on my way to the Japanese American Museum. Great coffee concoctions list including unique to Roy’s like chocolate cookie frappe and mango creamsicle. Among the array of sweet treats like churro bun, cookies, croissants, and sweet breads I found my first Spam Musubi. This Hawaiian favorite is Spamd and sauce rolled in rice and encased in seaweed wrapper and looks like a mini sub sushi. Delicious. I loved the dedicated list of teas to show hot and cold, caffeine free and caffinated with 3 kinds of green tea. I chose a new one Mt Olympus Flowers a light flowery delicious blend Staff is friendly and efficient and patiently explained the teas and the Spam Musubi. The place has modern teas and coffees in a retro vibe setting. The real Coca-Cola® machine operates with quarters. The gas pump is not working! The local art for sake adds a local vibe Indoor seating includes 2 accessible tables and bar height seats with 3 charging outlets. Outdoor tables are abundant with done open air and some under covered roof The readable menus are blackboard with white letters and red highlights posted on the wall are legible Free WiFi with password. 3 outlets at bar height Accessible entry with pull medium weight door. Accessible venue with accessible height order and pick up counter Accessible restroom requires code with 1 stationary grab bar and and movable grab bar 4ftx 6 ft space Accessible parking in various price ranges. Some parallel parking free. some accessible parallel and some head in parking pay by app or credit card, some with 2 hour limit

After a long time, a coffee shop has brought me real joy. Been to, a bunch of coffee shops of lately, and been disappointed with one thing or another but this was a real welcome surprise. Well, this rating is close to 4.5 what it is not perfect five because I will doc points for the quality of pastry. Let’s start with the good things first. The coffee was really good, and you could tell that they use good quality beans. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the service was extremely quick. The ambience is great and there is a lot of indoor as well as outdoor seating. On a nice bright sunny day, it is a great place to just sit outside and grab some coffee. Prices are great and they have a good selection. My only complain would be that the pastry is just average. The almond croissant filling was overly sweet, and the croissant was not very flaky. On the other hand, the chocolate chip cookie was extremely crispy and did not have a soft gooey interior. I will definitely be back here and bring more friends!

If you’re looking for delicious coffee and pastries, this is the place to be! I always enjoy their spicy mocha with buttery galettes, each with a variety of fillings — such a perfect combo. Everything here is super tasty, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. The staff are friendly and make you feel right at home. You can sit out on the front patio, soak in the vibe, and just relax — it’s my little happy spot.

Roy's is a cute little coffee shop in San Jose. It's definitely got a upscale, converted gas station vibe that is really interesting. Pretty solid amount of outdoor seating, and a solid selection of food and drink options. I'm always a sucker for a Mexican mocha, and they had a spiced mocha that scratched that itch. It actually had a kick, which most places shy away from. But the real star of the show was the Korean garlic bun. It was not at all what I was expecting. Very strong savory flavors with the garlic and cheese on top, but the inside had a sweet cream. It was delicious. I've never had a sweet and savory combination like that before. Highly recommend!

Reliable Coffee in a Historic Setting Located in the heart of San Jose’s Japantown, Roy’s Station is a staple for a reason. I stopped in recently for a coffee, and it was a perfectly good experience. While the coffee didn't necessarily blow me away as the "best ever," it was a good, consistent cup that hit the spot. They serve Verve Coffee Roasters beans, which are high quality, and the baristas seem to know what they are doing. It’s the kind of place where you can count on a solid caffeine fix without any major surprises, which sometimes is exactly what you need. Tempting Pastries and Local Bites Although I only came in for a drink this time, I spent some time eyeing their food display. The pastries looked really good—they were well-presented and looked incredibly fresh. I noticed they carry a variety of items ranging from classic croissants to more unique treats like Korean garlic buns and even spam musubi. It was tough to walk away without a snack, and based on how quickly they seemed to be moving, they are clearly a hit with the locals. I’ll definitely make it a point to try one of their baked goods on my next visit. Unique Atmosphere and the Japantown Vibe The coolest part about Roy’s is the building itself. It’s a converted vintage gas station, and they’ve done an amazing job keeping that retro character alive. Outdoor Seating: There is a huge patio area that is perfect for people-watching in Japantown. It’s pet-friendly, too, which adds to the community feel. The Crowd: Be aware that it gets very crowded, especially on sunny mornings. Because it’s so popular, there can be a significant wait for your order, but the atmosphere makes the time pass quickly. Great Location: Being right on the corner of 5th and Jackson makes it the perfect starting point for exploring the rest of the neighborhood’s shops and museums. Final Verdict: A Staple San Jose Experience I’m giving Roy’s Station 4 stars on Google. It’s a really good overall experience that combines history with a great neighborhood atmosphere. While the popularity means you might have to deal with a line and a wait for a table, the vibe of the place makes it worth it. Whether you are a local or just visiting Japantown, it’s a must-stop for a reliable coffee and a great view of the local scene. I'll be back for a pastry next time :)

The best coffee in San Jose! The people are super friendly, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and they make the best cheese bagel ever — just make sure to ask them to warm it up! We absolutely love this place and keep coming back every time we’re in town!
